Dear Church Family,
While the people of God were in exile during the ministry of the prophet Isaiah, God spoke to them and said:
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert. (Isaiah 43:19)
The people of God were probably discouraged and their hope for a return to the land God had given them was most likely diminishing. As their grip was slipping on the rope of hope, God assured them that He was present and at work. He told them, “I am doing a new thing.” This reminder that God is at work in the present just as He worked in the past offered hope to His weary people.
If you’re like me, you may be entering 2022 weary. It has been a challenging two years. Like the people in Isaiah’s day, we need to be reminded that God is at work in this very moment to will and to work for His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). As we move into the new year, let us allow the Word of God to strengthen our grip on the rope of hope. One way we can do this is by reading through the Bible.
I want to invite you to join me in reading through the Bible this year. I’ve included the reading plan for January in the newsletter. Also, there is a printed copy in the vestibule of the Sanctuary. I’ll include the reading plan each month. It is so easy to forget what God has done and what He continues to do in the world. Let’s allow the daily reading of God’s Word to strengthen our faith this year!
